[GSoC 2026 PROPOSAL] Muhammad Umair - Retool Jenkins.io Contributor Spotlight

Hello Jenkins Community! My name is Umair, and I am a Software Engineering student. I am a passionate frontend developer with a strong focus on the React ecosystem. I am writing to express my strong interest in the “Retool Jenkins .io Contributor Spotlight website” project for GSoC 2026.

As a student, I have always admired the Jenkins project’s commitment to automation and community growth. The “Contributor Spotlight” project specifically caught my eye because it bridges the gap between technical migration and UI/UX modernization. I want to contribute to Jenkins because of its welcoming community and the opportunity to help modernize a core part of the contributor experience.

My primary tech stack includes React, Next.js, TypeScript, and Tailwind CSS. I am also familiar with Material UI (MUI).

To prepare for this project, I have already:

  • Forked and locally set up the existing Gatsby-based contributor-spotlight repository.

  • Started a Proof-of-Concept (PoC) using Vite + React + TypeScript + MUI.

  • Successfully recreated the basic “Profile Hero” section of the current site to understand how to map the existing AsciiDoc data to a modern React component architecture.

I enjoy solving migration challenges taking legacy systems and moving them to modern, faster stacks like Vite. I believe my experience with component-based architecture and my dedication to clean, responsive design make me a great fit for this retooling effort.

I am looking forward to discussing the design requirements and the transition from Gatsby to Vite further with the mentors!
