Upgrade from 2.222.3 to 2.440.1

Hi all,

Our current version is 2.222.3 and we would like to update it to the lastest version.
What is the best approach to achieve this without breaking the Jenkins?

We tried direct Jenkins update but the site was not responsive.
Then we switched from Java to OpenJDK but plugins failed to load.

What is the recommended steps to perform in order to have a successful upgrade coming in from an old version.
