Hello Jenkins Community,
My name is Kiet Nguyen, you guys can call me Ryan, and I’m a freshman majoring in AI at the University of South Florida. My background is mainly in Python, AI/ML systems, backend development, and experimentation-oriented engineering. I also come from a research-oriented background and was awarded 2nd Place at Regeneron ISEF, which motivated me to pursue projects that combine technical depth with practical impact.
Over the past couple of weeks, I have been reading through the Jenkins GSoC contributor guidance, the project ideas page, and introductory Jenkins resources to better understand the ecosystem. For GSoC 2026, I am especially interested in “AI Chatbot to Guide User Workflow” because it combines AI with developer tooling in a way that can directly improve the Jenkins user experience.
My current understanding is that this project should go beyond a generic documentation chatbot. I see it more as a grounded Jenkins workflow assistant that can help users navigate workflows, find relevant resources, and troubleshoot common issues.
Right now, I am leaning toward a 175h scope focused on:
-
retrieval from trusted Jenkins resources,
-
workflow-oriented assistance for common user questions,
-
a practical integration point or interface,
-
and a simple evaluation plan for response quality and usefulness.
I am still drafting my proposal, so I would really appreciate feedback on a few points:
-
For a strong 175h proposal, what would be the most valuable core deliverable?
-
Would mentors prefer a plugin-integrated UI first, or a modular prototype with a clear integration path?
