Hello, I am Pratham, a third-year B.Tech student. I am pratiipating in Gsoc’26. I am particularly interested in the project called “Retool Jenkins.io Contributor Spotlight Website.” I have read through the project description on GitHub and also explored the website by running it locally on my computer. While browsing the current spotlight pages, I noticed that the layout feels a bit static and that navigation and discoverability could be improved, especially on smaller screens. I think improving responsiveness and information hierarchy could make contributor stories more engaging.
With React and modern frontend patterns (state management, reusable components, and better data flow), I believe we can implement features such as easier adding, editing, and removing of contributors, and modernize the website including, but not limited to:
The landing page
The spotlight profile page
I am quite comfortable with full-stack development. In the past, I have made meaningful contributions to open-source projects (for example, https://github.com/AOSSIE-Org/DebateAI, and several intra- and inter-college open-source programs), working on both backend and frontend features. I have experience with React, Vite, Node.js, Express, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
I am excited to explore the existing codebase further and would really appreciate guidance from mentors on good first issues or areas of the project where I can start contributing.
I want to contribute in this project and also am interested in this project for gsoc’26,
1.should I just make any contribution through GitHub currently (by pushing PR or issues) about vite and react part or is it totally for GSOC?, in that case I will make a Proposal,
Is it fine if i request you to review my Proposal for this project (publicly) in gsoc before the contributor application period starts?
Yes, you can work on some issues either existing or ones you have created towards that repo on GitHub, except the actual migration to a new set of new tools including but not limited to the build tool.
Once the list of GSoC 2026 mentoring list have been confirmed on Feb 19, 2026 (i.e. over the next few days), and that if Jenkins will be accepted by Google as a mentoring org, we will create a Google form for any candidates who would like to have mentor feedback for their proposals to submit their Google document discreetly. So you may start the draft now and submit it to us via the Google form then.
In this project, is this project needing to migrate to a standard database management servers like mongodb or anyother?, cause what I saw that it is using a .adoc file and GraphQL, which is kind of static build output , as well…. In that case I will think of potential solutions and mention them into draft proposal or discuss the ideas with you or the potential mentors
Also is the Google form out which you mentioned previously ?
