Jenkins fails to upgrade it's own version info in the registry

Windows -- Upgrading in place doesn't update version information in Add/Remove Programs

We run automated vulnerability scans of our Windows hosts that collect software inventory and inspect program version information from what I suspect is the registry. We also keep Jenkins up to date using the Upgrade Automatically feature in the Web UI. Jenkins needs to provide some guidance on keeping the registry ‘version’ in synch with the application ‘version’.
