Hello Jenkins GSoC community,
My name is Aryan, and I am a second-year Software Engineering co-op student at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario. I am very interested in the GSoC 2026 project idea: “Use OpenTelemetry for Jenkins Jobs on ci.jenkins.io.”
Background: I have experience in Java, Python, and backend development, having worked on APIs, distributed systems, and CI/CD pipelines. My interests lie in observability and infrastructure tooling, which align with my long-term goal of pursuing a career in backend/systems engineering.
I have started to look at the opentelemetry-plugin repository and the infrastructure. I have a few questions to start to ensure I understand the project scope:
- Is the primary goal of the project to instrument the existing pipelines with OpenTelemetry traces and metrics, or is there also a focus on implementing visualizations or alerts based on the collected data?
- Are there specific pipeline types or jobs that should be prioritized for instrumentation?
I plan to begin working on beginner-friendly issues today to get familiarized with the codebase. Looking forward to contributing and learning from the community.
