[GSoC 2026] Interest in "Improving Plugin Modernizer" Project

Hi everyone,

I’m Tasneem, a masters in Computer Applications student. I am writing to express my strong interest in the Improving Plugin Modernizer project for GSoC 2026.

I have a strong background in Java and DevOps, and I am very interested in how this tool automates plugin maintenance. I see that OpenRewrite and the Visitor pattern are key technologies for this project. I am currently reviewing the jenkins-infra/plugin-modernizer-tool repository to understand the codebase.

Could you point me to any specific “good first issues” or documentation that would help me get started with the Open-Rewrite recipes used in this tool?

A first step would be to read the documentation, contributing guide and understand the codebase.

Then trying to reproduce an issue (in dry-run mode) and see how it can be fixed
