Late to GSoC Contributions – Can I Still Make It?

Hi everyone,

I am Aditi Mehta, a second-year B.Tech IT student at Indira Gandhi Delhi Technical University for Women (IGDTUW). I have a strong background in Java, Python, and JavaScript, with experience in Machine Learning, NLP, AI, Web Development, and Blockchain. Some of my key projects include:

:small_blue_diamond: Disaster Tweet Classification (ML, NLP, Python) – Achieved 82% accuracy in classifying disaster-related tweets.
:small_blue_diamond: ARIOSE – Credit Card Fraud Detection (ML, Blockchain) – Achieved 92% fraud detection accuracy using AI & Blockchain.
:small_blue_diamond: MCF-OmniFlux (AI-Driven Fulfillment) – Built an intelligent order-routing solution for 1L+ sellers, showcased in Amazon Sambhav Hackathon.

I recently discovered Jenkins’ GSoC 2025 projects, and I am particularly excited about the AI-powered chatbot for quick Jenkins resources access. However, I realize that I might be late to contributing. I wanted to ask:

:pushpin: Can I still contribute meaningfully and have a chance at GSoC 2025 with Jenkins?
:pushpin: What’s the best way to catch up and make an impact quickly?

I am eager to learn, contribute, and get involved in the Jenkins open-source community. Any guidance on how I can start contributing fast and effectively would be greatly appreciated!

Looking forward to working with you all. Thanks in advance!

Best regards
Aditi Mehta

Hello and welcome to the community, @aditi75432! :waving_hand:

At this stage, you can certainly contribute to Jenkins—every bit of help is valuable and appreciated. While your contributions may not carry as much weight as those from long-term contributors, this is not the only criterion we’ll consider when assessing your proposal.

Contributing is beneficial both for you and for the project. Gaining more knowledge about Jenkins is a great addition to your resume, and any assistance you offer is appreciated.

Please don’t let your late entry deter you from submitting your proposal. Naturally, the more you understand Jenkins, the more compelling and relevant your proposal will be.

Looking forward to seeing what you bring to the table!

Don’t forget to send your proposal through this form.

Thank you so much!
Can you please tell me where can I start contributions to the projects?

Quoting Mark Waite:

The project overview page includes the code card with links to two of the GitHub organizations we use. Many Jenkins components track their issues in GitHub. Good first issues are a great place to start.
The Hacktoberfest 2024 blog post includes a link to the Hacktoberfest events page. That page includes a link to the Jenkins Jira issue tracker and its friendly issues report. They are also a good place to start.

Okay thank you so much!

Actually I wanted to work on AI-Powered chatbot, but there is no repo for it? So how can contribute to it?
Also if I just start with the good first issues , will they also be relevant for my proposal to contribute to this project?

You can’t contribute to it just yet, as it doesn’t exist. You’ll need to contribute to other parts of Jenkins to understand how the community operates, how to create an effective PR, and how to navigate the review process.

Additionally, you’ll need to prepare a well-thought-out proposal detailing your vision of what the AI-powered chatbot should be for Jenkins. This will help focus your contributions and align them with community expectations.

Okay Thank you mentor !
